1Who we are
Asterisk AI Inc. makes Backseat. You can reach us at support@asteriskai.net about this policy or your information. This policy covers the Backseat iOS app and the Backseat pages on asteriskai.net. Apple services and other websites have their own privacy policies.
2What stays on your device
The app saves your favorites, selected game, default platform, Explore mode, speaking pace, buttons per callout, vibration preference and the guides and places you mark as done or tried on your device. These settings let the app remember your choices. Searches run on your phone against the catalog in the app; what you type is only shared as described under Usage analytics.
If iCloud is on, your saved items, progress and read-aloud settings sync between your devices through your own iCloud account, which Apple runs. We cannot see that data. Your selected game and platform stay on each device.
To keep codes and guides up to date, the app downloads content packs and pictures from our content server. These requests carry ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, but no account or identifier of yours.
To run the free week, the app stores the date you installed it and the date your free week began in the iOS Keychain. Keychain records can remain after you delete and reinstall the app. Backseat does not upload these records to us, and we cannot see or erase them remotely.
3Usage analytics
Backseat uses Mixpanel (mixpanel.com), a service provider, to understand which features get used. On first launch the app makes a random ID. It is not built from your name, email, Apple Account, device or advertising ID. It is saved on your iPhone and in your iCloud, so it stays the same after a reinstall or on a new iPhone.
Under that ID, Backseat sends: the screens and items you open (cheats, guides, Explore sets), cheats you save, read-aloud plays, what you type in search and how many results it found, when the paywall shows and whether a purchase or restore succeeded, plus your selected game, console, Plus status, free week status and app version.
Backseat does not send your name, email, location, contacts or IP-based location. Nothing is shared with advertisers or used to track you across other companies’ apps.
You can turn this off at any time in Settings → Privacy → Share usage data. To ask for your data to be deleted, copy your Support ID from Settings → Privacy and email it to support@asteriskai.net.
4Purchases, read-aloud and Siri
Apple processes every Backseat Plus purchase. The app uses Apple StoreKit to check whether you have Plus and to restore purchases. We never receive your payment details. Apple handles purchase and account information under Apple’s App Store privacy information.
Read-aloud uses Apple’s on-device speech synthesis to speak button sequences. The app does not record your voice or ask for microphone access.
If you use Siri or Shortcuts with Backseat, Apple processes your request under its own privacy terms. Backseat only receives the name of the cheat you asked for, so it can open or read it.
5Accounts, ads and tracking
Backseat has no accounts. The app has no advertising and no cross-app tracking. It does not ask for your location, contacts, camera or photos. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
6Visiting these pages
These pages do not set cookies or include advertising or analytics trackers. Our hosting provider may process ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type, in access and security logs. This keeps the site running and protects it from abuse.
7When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you attach. We use it to answer you, fix problems and handle your request. Please do not send passwords, payment-card details or other sensitive information. Our email and hosting providers process information needed to deliver those services, and we may disclose information when the law requires it.
8Children
Backseat is a companion for games rated for mature audiences and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has emailed us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
9Your choices and how long we keep things
You can change preferences and remove favorites or tried marks in the app at any time. Deleting the app removes its ordinary data; Keychain records, and anything synced to your iCloud, may remain. There is no Backseat account to delete.
We keep support emails while we need them to handle your request, resolve related issues or meet legal obligations. Contact us to ask for access to, correction of or deletion of information you have sent us, or about other rights you have under applicable law. We may need to confirm your identity. We cannot remotely delete records that live only on your device or with Apple.
10Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the app, these pages or our practices change. The effective date above shows the current version, and we will give any further notice the law requires. Questions? Write to support@asteriskai.net.
